At an awards ceremony on 14th December, 2017, in which research excellence was recognised across the University of Bolton, two Lecturers in English were presented with prestigious Jenkinson Research Awards.

Dr Jill Marsden, English Programme Leader, was presented with a Jenkinson Award for her project titled “The Transvaluation of the Literary”, while Kim Edwards Keates received funding for her work, “Celebrating Bolton’s Victorian Literary Legacy”.

“The quality of submissions was particularly high this year and the winners reflect the very best of university research in terms of our teaching intensive, research informed agenda.”

Professor Patrick McGhee, Chair of the Jenkinson 2018 Panel

Highlighting the significance of the arts and humanities, specifically, Professor McGhee declared that:

“Arts and humanities research is important for one of the same reasons that science research is important: for its own sake. Society should value knowledge and critique for its intrinsic value, and of course universities have a very special role in that process – and that is one of the many reasons universities are such special places.”
