The English Department celebrated with students graduating from the School of Arts on Friday afternoon (14 July 2017) at Bolton Town Hall.
Gaining an impressive scoop of degree classifications, all excelled and six graduated with First Class English BA honours, including: Sam Iqbal, Hannah Hatchman, Michaela Lee, Katie Hetherington, as well as Alex Hughes and Charlotte Wilkes whose work was exhibited as part of the Creative Show.
Having worked incredibly hard throughout the degree, students this year produced a remarkable range of self-directed research projects. Topics included World War Two poetry, African Female Narratives, Holocaust imagery in the work of Sylvia Plath and Anne Sexton, Vampire Fiction, and feminist readings of female articulation and language.
Dr Jill Marsden, Programme Leader, said: ‘We are absolutely delighted to see so many of our students graduating with first class honours. It reflects the hard work and dedication of our students throughout the course of the degree’.
‘I enjoyed every single minute of the degree. Even when it was tough the end result was worth it! Fantastic teaching staff, fantastic students and a fantastic working environment. I would recommend it to anyone! (And I’m also really sad it’s over). I’ve made friends for life and I’ll never ever forget our wonderful experience.’

Hannah Hatchman has already found employment and is currently looking forward to continuing work and study beginning a new career in teaching. Our first class students are variously preparing for careers in teaching, publishing, and two plan to progress to Masters degree programmes. We wish all of our graduating students success for the future!
